Was just notified today that Mother has reached a "plateau" in her rehabilitation therapy and she will have to leave the facility in one week's time. She's currently in the rehab wing and they don't have a bed for her in the nursing wing. They have suggested that we place her in assisted living and hire someone to provide extra care for her there. She has dementia, balance problems (is now in a wheelchair and can't go to bathroom without assistance) and neuropathy in her legs. Other than that, she's in good health. We can't believe they're only giving us a week to find a placement for her. We though they were going to keep her there for the duration of her life. She's used to the facility and doesn't want to move to another. We feel so helpless? What can we do? They say she's not well enough to go home and that it would be too much for family to try and care for her and they're right about that. We tried it and it didn't work. They didn't even give us a list of suggested places we might considered placing her. The social worker seems to be completely inept. We're at our wits end.
