My husband just went into surgery saturday morning for AAA. What kind of care will he require when he comes home?
He came to me friday night complaining about a severe pain in his abdominal area so we rushed him to the hospital. They thought it was a kidney stone at first but a katscan showed differently.
My husband did great for Abdominal Aneurysm little to nothing in recovery. But 2 yrs ago he had Thorastic at his heart and that was bad, he was in and out of hospital with infection. They had to stop his heart when they did this operation . When he came home I was his nurse I had to pack is wound and give him antibyotics threw IV. I am not a nurse but it went well. Lots of luck and I wish your husband well.
Surgery for Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm replacement may take 2 to 4 hours. Most patients recover in the intensive care unit (ICU) after the surgery. After 24-48 hours, if the patient is stable, they move to a regular room. Full recovery for open surgery to repair an AAA may take 2 or 3 months. Most people make a full recovery from this surgery.
