I know that Medicare.gov provides ratings of Nursing Homes, but I can't seem to find a similar rating system for Hospice providers. I know that there MUST be one.
The ones that make me strike a company off my list are several people saying they didn't show up or answer the phone when needed. Many of the hospice providers have many reviews, so it is usually easy to ignore one or two. It is impossible to make everyone happy.
I usually take *reviews* with a grain of salt.... as there are always two sides to every story. I would be more apt to take the recommendations of the patient's primary doctor or Case manager.
There are even more important reviews that you'll find online. They are written by the families that use the various services. These helped me tremendously in choosing 2 possible providers if we need hospice. Out of the 23 possible, these two had the best client reviews. It is easy to check the reviews by going to Google and getting a list of hospice providers (e.g. Birmingham AL hospice in my case), then check the reviews that are available. Some companies have awful reviews, so those can be marked off right away. Some will rise to the top and you can look at those more carefully. Often there are reviews in more than one place.
