Mom says she needs to stand to shower. Really?

This is one of my Twilight Zone moments; my SIL mentioned that it was Friday, how lovely, it's that day that you get your shower. Mom says, "no I can't shower anymore; I have to stand to do that". Trying to figure out if mom is confabulating something she overheard, misinterpreting, entering a new stage of Vascular Dementia (she is def. dxed with VD; the MD thinks perhaps AD as well, but nothing definitive of course). Anyone else been through this? I've asked nursing and aide staff to reassure, educate, etc.

the really good news is that they were able to shower her last night in the shower chair (which of course they have been using since she got there a year ago, post hip surgery). No clue what was going on. The more I deal with this, the more I suspect that if we weren't around, she'd be getting just as good care with fewer raised bps (ours). Her roommate has no one; they take really good care of her.

Tell her if she has to stand but can't physically stand, you'll get an occupational therapist to show her how to shower adaptively but that she will have to bath. Case closed.
