Any ideas to increase water consumption?

How about Popsicles, pedialyte frozen pops, applesauce, etc. doesn't just have to be water, can be anything high in moisture content. Milkshakes or even diluted juices are good. Broths, lime diluted chicken broth, teas, etc might also be well received.

Oh my gosh, whenever I had one of those IV bags I felt so much better. The last time my sig other was in the ER he was hooked up to one which they placed some pain meds for his back... he asked if he could take the IV bag home :)

Bon bon...she was not talking about us... keep on point. wink. wink. :D

Pharmacist told me that pedialyte wasn't good for elders as it's made for infants. Different chemical makeup..... heck, all i wanted was an IV bag in bottle form.

If the patient retains fluids, limit liquids per MD order, usually no more than 1-2 liters per day. If dehydration is a problem, use an electrolyte enhancing drink like pedialyte, Gatorade. Make sure any diuretics are in the right dosage.

Tell her it's Vodka and slip in a Valium. Wink.

Good point ff. Mom's bp is ok.... but I still dilute with water and use the lower sodium product.

If one has high blood pressure, don't forget Gatorade contains about 450 mg of sodium per liter, or about 110 mg per cup.

Recommended by the pharmacist to increase water and decrease dehydration ...

Gatorade!! Nutritious water in great flavors, surely to please the pickiest of elderly loved ones! My mom love the blue water -wink wink- she's now drinking lots more than ever before Win win.

I know for myself, I keep bottled water on my desk at work, and here in my home office next to my computer.... now I need to remind myself to notice it is there and to actually drink the water. I am so bad at doing that, and it does create problems if I don't :(
