Is there an aid for someone living alone if they have a fall?

The only one I can find has to be linked to the telephone line. My Mother is afraid if she falls no one will find her, she only has a mobile phone due to the cost of a land line and she is in rented property, she needs some sort of alarm system?

There are GPS-based units that do not need to be connected to a landline that are an option. I know the companies here in Wisconsin that provide them, but I am not sure where you live. You can trying googling these type of devices and then calling companies to get one installed.

I like the water proof units that can be worn in the shower and the GPS units have the capability of a much larger radius for those seniors that still need the security while out of their home.

There are a couple designed to work without phones or with mobile phones - in Europe there is tunstallemergencyresponse.ie/lifeline-dual/ and check this for one example in the US: lifelinesys/content/lifeline-products/product-comparison

Landlines are so very important for the elderly or anyone who has any illness of any type. With a landline if you call 911, the Dispatcher automatically knows where you live as it shows up on their monitor, so if you have a stroke and cannot talk, the Dispatcher knows where to send help.

With some cellphones, there is usually a half hour to several hours delay because all the Dispatcher can trace is the closest cell tower, then it is a needle in a hay stack trying to find which house the call came from.

Landline phone service is very inexpensive compared to a cellphone. I have a landline phone in every room of the house... no running around looking to see where I last placed that cellphone. Said phones can be bought for between $10-$25 and they last for years. One of my parent's landline phones is 30 years old and still works like new.

Talk to your cell phone provider. The major carriers are coming up with personal alarms, believe it or not.
