Mother-in-law deeded house to me and my husband. My husband left me and moved to another city. Will I lose the house?

I am still there caring for her. Her home wS deeded to her son and me both he deserted me and her she is 84 and has a broke neck
I haven't left her and continue caregiving
I stayed living up to my part of bargain he did not
Will the house be mine

"whoever stays gets it" tells me it is not yours yet, but there is something in a will somewhere saying you will inherit if you stay. You need to take that paper to a lawyer and establish the fact that he has abandoned the house.

Bethany - does the house still have a mortgage? You said "house my payment", does this mean you are the one making the monthly mortgage payment?

If so there are some things you need to think about. let us know.

Then why would you worry about losing the house? You meet the stipulation. He doesn't.

Take the documents to an attorney and see if their is anything else that should be done to safeguard your claim. Consider the fee the price of your peace of mind.

Has stipulation in it that whoever stays gets it

Bethany, the only way the house can only be yours is if your hubby *quit claim* the deed over to you. Otherwise, since the house is deeded in both names, it remains half yours and half his.

These questions are best answered by your divorce attorney. You should at least get your time paid for, the time you spend caring for MIL.

Was the bargain put in writing? Was the house given to the two of you contingent on you providing certain care? How long ago was the house deeded to you? Are you in the US? Is MIL going to need Medicaid?
