Is there help for delusional behavior?

My husband with dementia is convinced our house is my house and I am his friend, not his wife. He thinks he has another house and his wife lives there. He wants me to call her and have her come and get him or he wants me to drive him there. If I tell him I can't, he gets nasty and says he will walk there. This is a daily issue and I don;t know how to handle it. Is there medications for this type of behavior?

Look up Capgras syndrome. I have no experience with this, but have other caregivers talk about it. I'm not sure if it is any comfort to know it is common enough to have a name. At least you can read about it and see if it fits your situation.

Our doctor prescribed lorazepam for my mom and it calms her down...and when her stress is lower she doesn't act out as much and it calms her anger down, also.

You really can't fix delusions, but if it becomes OCD or anxiety, those symptoms are treatable with appropriate meds. The important thing is to alleviate anxiety before it escalates to aggression.

Have you talked to the doctor who is managing his care?

Do you know what kind of dementia he has? Have you watched any of the Teepa Snow videos about managing dementia symptoms?
