How do you deal with a resident that will not keep his hands off of the workers, as in a sexual manner?

He is always coming on to people. Help. He seems to be getting worse. He sits by the desk as the night shift comes in and as the 2 to 10 girls leave he is grabbing at them. He is always saying come to my room baby. and stuff that makes me feel uncomfortable, The other day I heard a aid tell him "I am not on the clock so stop". Does that mean its ok as long as we are getting paid?? REALLY?! I have done everything short of calling state. This man IS in his right mind..he goes out and smokes at all hours of the night and it hard to do rounds with him making comments or standing in your way to get down the hall staring you up and down. I am at my wits end...PLEASE HELP!

I have the feeling there is more wrong than people are realizing. This sounds like frontal lobe behavior to me, so I wouldn't be surprised to find he has some damage in the area. As a professional, it would be good to realize that this is probably due to a sickness that hasn't been diagnosed yet and not take it personally. The admin there may want to make sure the resident is in an area that he can't harass the women so often. Who wants to work around that.

I knew a man who began to act very inappropriately sexually. It was mainly verbal, but it was very uncomfortable. Soon he was diagnosed with dementia -- what type I don't know -- and went down very rapidly. Sexual behaviors happen sometimes with the various dementias and other brain problems. If you see it as a sickness, it may make it easier to tolerate. It will just be part of the job.

Yes he is i n his right mind. He only has a nephew that comes to see him but he also has a sister somewhere. His mom just past away. But It has been a problem long enough that they have him on medicine to "curb his sexual desire" HA that didnt work. I have only been at this facility for almost 3 months and his nephews wife worked there so she saw what he was doing. She no longer works there. The administrator was told by me personally and nothing happened. and Yes everyone tells him to stop, or leave them alone. I tried to explain to him how what he was doing is wrong and if anyone overheard what he was doing it would cost our jobs. I have been everything nice to very rude. So yes I will try and video him and take a different approach. THANKS FOR HELPING ME!!

He is in his right mind? If he is I agree he should be videotaped (to prove the behavior is going on) and then reported at least to your supervisor....no person has the right to sexually harass anyone - on the clock or not. Everyone has to make sure they tell him to leave them alone, in no uncertain terms. Does he have family and do they know that this is going on?

He is a predator and this is a crime. Tell the Director, with a witness to the report. Video tape his repeated harassment and present that to the police.
It is important that he is being told NO by everyone. It is important that several persons make the complaint to admins and PD. If you have all that, the offending patient will be removed.
