My heart goes out to you. I kept my husband at home right to the end of his 10-year journey with dementia. I was glad I could. I know that isn't always the best thing.

Please provide a little more information so we can discuss this with you in more detail.

Who says she needs more care than you can provide in the home? Does her doctor or other health care professionals say that? Do you know why?

What stage is your wife in her dementia? Are you familiar with what the progression is and what you can expect to come?

Is your wife able to provide any input on her preference?

How old are you and how is your health?

Can you afford in home help long term and the additional costs that you will incur as the condition progresses? Eventually, you will need around the clock hands on help.

There are so many factors that come into play. I'm not sure how to address your situation. I would recommend that you educate yourself on dementia and all that is involved in the daily, round the clock care so you can properly evaluate the best place for your wife to be.

There are many threads on this site about the various challenges of caring for dementia patients in the home. That should give you some good perspective as well. I wish you both all the best.
