What happens when you don't have anyone to be your financial and medical power of attorney?

I never married, nor do I have any children or capable relatives. Friends will be dealing with their own aging issues.
I will have an attorney prepare my will this year, and he/she can probably answer this for me, but I was wondering if anyone on this forum had any knowledge regarding this. Thanks!

If there is no one appointed, the state takes over when you are incompetent.

You could ask your Attorney to be your financial Power of Attorney, said money to do this work would come out of your estate.

As for medical Power of Attorney, that's a tough one. I know I had to dig through my address book to see who I could ask, as my Attorney said she couldn't do that.
