What are the steps to take in getting paid for taking care of Mom?

My Mom came home from a hospital last month. I have been told that I can make money by being her P.C.A? My mom has Medicaid and Medicare. Should I Contact them and ask them?

Up in the search box, on the right put in "getting paid." All of the posts will come up. But, generally, it is the person that you are caring for that pays you.

But, unless you have a full time job, elsewhere, you aren't getting your own soc.sec and insurance paid into, are you?

AngelBaby718, I see from your profile you have been caring for your Mom since she was 56, she is now 66. What other health issues does she have beside Parkinson's? What are her limitations? What is she able to do for herself and to help take care of the house?

Most adult children do not get paid for caring for their parent. You could contact the local Council on Aging to see what is available to help you, such as having an Aide come to the house for a couple of hours to help. Or to see what items your Mom might need that would be available free of charge or at a lower price.

If your Mom now needs 24 hour care, Medicaid would recommend that she be placed in a continuing care facility where she would get around the clock care. One caregiver at home cannot do all this work as time goes on.

There are multiple threads that address this question. It depends on where you live and patient condition if Medicaid covers it. Medicare will not pay you to care at home.
