Burial expense reimbursement for elders who had no coverage. Any advice?

My 62 year old sister recently passed away and she had no life insurance or burial arrangements. She was on social security and she had health coverage thru Mass Health and medicare. She lived in Fall River Ma but was brought into RI for cremation.
I am her sister and had to pay for the services. Is there any services available to reimburse me for my out of pocket expenses?

If she was a veteran, there could be something from the VA.

Same happened with my sig other regarding his late brother. The brother never saved for the future and never thought about the cost of a funeral so my sig other had to pay for the funeral expense out of his own pocket. There were no reimbursements except for the death benefit $250 from Social Security which the brother's wife received.

Only $250 from Medicare, and only if you apply for it. Sorry.
