My husband takes care of me and all household things 24/7. Can we get a credit for us?

Home and personal care by husband, I am not a parnet

Donna, you will need to check with a tax preparer or contact the IRS... tax laws are always changing.

If your Dad lives elsewhere from you, I doubt you could deduct him as a *dependent* on your income tax unless you are paying more than half of his housing, etc. If you are paying more than half, then the other expenses might come into play if you have kept records of your mileage, and other items needed for medical use.

Me being only child and cargiver for dad. may i claim a tax deduction for driving him to doctor and other places as well as doing house cleaning and other items. He is 90 years old and lives in a apartment buiding.

Donna.

mcparlandk, what do you mean by *credit*? For income taxes? For Medicaid? Certain discounts?

pamstegma Jan 2015
No spouses and children who live with the parent are expected to help with care and Medicaid will not pay them. On the other hand, if you need help from a certified professional CNA/LPN/RN/OT/PT and your doctor writes an order for it, Medicare/Medicaid will cover it.
