Why in tarnation, would a person take his oxygen off to get a breath of air?

I checked n my husband and he was watching the football game without his oxygen on.and that made me ask why his oxygen was off his face. He said he just took it off to get a breath of air. I told him to put it back on, because that IS his air. He doesn't know why he did that.
