My dad didn't BM for 3 days. I was panicking because his stomach was bloating and he absolutely refuses to go to the clinic or ER for anything. I'm lactose intolerant. I figured I'll make his favorite 'chocolate milk' - just Ovaltine with his small box of milk from the Meals-on-Wheels lunches. 2 days - of one cup of Ovaltine milk - and he's back to pooping. I stopped giving him on the 3rd day because I didn't want to deal with runny BM. Lately, he's not drinking enough water.
$50 you can buy an easy to clean Hamilton Beach juicer. I also use my $25 Walmart blender. Here's the blender breakfast drink I like: Trader Joe's fresh pineapple juice, Trader Joe's Green Drink powder (full of nutritional boosters), a half of a banana, a handful of spinach (baby spinach, or chopped kale), 3 tablespoons of ground flaxseeds. Go, go!
And Indian natural remedy called Triphala Churna stimulates the bowels to relieve constipation. I also use at least 3 tablespoons ground flaxseed in my juice or sprinkled on food throughout the day. Flaxseeds are great for you as a healthy oil too. Taking a really good probiotic helps as well. Breads, white flour, dairy creates constipation for me.
also, PERI COLASE PILLS work great... she weights 90 lb. and gets 2 pills @ bedtime... the PERI of the colas stimulates her bowels to go.... with diet & colas, we have found this is ONLY thing that works consistently.
stay away from foods that cause constipation... here is a short list of foods that relieve constipation,,, sweet potatoes, green beans, peas, bananas, blueberry s,apples....igive my 92yr. mom applesauce,& a small glass of prune juice daily... this really helps...
Is she still able to drink? If you've not got one already, go get a super blender. Grab a giant bag of kale, spinach, cucumbers, celery, BEETS... whatever you can find, blend in some berries and a nutritional drink..
Solved mom's constipation since she was no longer able to eat her fiber but she loves her shakes.
Make her some pancakes and serve with lots of sugar-free syrup. That always gets me going. Sucralose, sorbitol or mannitol loosen things up. If you need to sedate her for an enema, ask the MD for an Rx or ask him if a dose of Benadryl (diphenhydramine) is safe for her. He may want you to regularly add fiber to her liquid intake such as Metamucil or Benefiber to prevent constipation. If she likes prunes, serve them at breakfast.
