Anyone know of education funding for those of us caregivers?

Thanks so much for your input igloo572! I'm running an iMac topped off with all the best adobe has to offer- have 2.5-3 hrs per day to myself. Most folks only pay $40 per logo development; not much for heritage photographic reconstruction. Ultrasound can net between 43K and 64K per annum for talent- and I'm literally dying on the vine. I have chops for all adobe platforms- not a lot of time right now to devote. Sometimes I think if i can just get a beach shack to prep breakfast...trying to be the good daughter does not leave many opportunities...need to just trust our Creator. Thanks soon much for your envisioned and detailed response. I will research your suggestions- really live now in a po-dunk area (no disrespect- just telling it like it is). Life will surely become more difficult before it gets better. As for studio mgr et al: been there, done that, screwed to the max. Not going there again. Opting for 40+yrs in saleable copyrighted material. That's all I've got. Thanks so much for the recognition and the input- sometimes I feel like an astronaut. Dish - 58! You have at least 15 years you can work.....really do something that you feel a passion for.your a creative, correct? Find something that enables that strength & ability that you have. BFA with photography background - you could be studio manager for photography studio; assistant media buyer @ ad agency; booking agent for talent. If your state does film tax credits, there is a huge demand for skilled & or trained creatives and not just for on location or soundstage stuff, but like PA or dept accountant for film production companies or their vendirs or law firms that bridge the credits. Often states pay for workforce training - my state (LA) does training for PA's, FX, etc throughout the year & for free. At times, just isn't enough workers for crew needs as so many are gypsies and move from project to project and leave the state.

I just don't see a creative bring content being an ultrasound tech.....you'll work longer if it's something you enjoy rather than do because you have too.

For health care jobs, personally id be really concerned that as hospital groups continue the buy out of MD practices, & continued consolidation of smaller hospitals & clinics, that less & less workers will be needed. Plus no matter what age discrimination laws say, employers are going to see an application from a 28 yr old tech & a 58 yr old tech - both recent grads from the same ultrasound program - they are going to hire the younger one. Creative industries dont see age quite the same as a lot of the top tier are themselves in their 70's or 80's.

Whatever the case, you need to be technology savvy. Mac for creative industries, pc for the rest. In many areas, the public library has grants for basic computer classes, some even do website development. You can take the same class over & over if need be.

Thanks for the good ideas Miasmom1. Mom's doctors have actually been suggesting diagnostic sonography, or PA. credentialling; because of my background. I feel I should (we all should) plan the transitional period while still in caregiver-mode. I've exhausted my personal resources in the past 20 years, however I'm still in a position of strength in that house is paid for, no debt, good health (so far). I realize that can all change in an instant. (PS: Mom has NO debt, all final paperwork in order. Everyone over 21 needs to have that done BTW.) Gave up my post 2009 when I was refused FMLA to care for sister. (Out of state- bone marrow transplant.) To keep my wits about me I read quite a bit (night) and work on possible transition strategies. Not trying to rush things; but having something to look forward to I believe gives positive energy. We'll figure it out.

my only advice (which you probably already knew) is whatever you choose make sure you love it and that there are many different ways to use it. I am currently in the middle of a beauracratic nightmare being in grad school. I chose social work because you can use it with many populations and in many settings. if I weren't a year away from my degree I would seriously consider dropping out, and I am not a quitter. Also since you may have been away from academia for a while make sure you go to any orientations offered and even read up on returning to academia after being gone for a while. (I went back to school when I was 42.) My university has not been supportive of my father's passing. He passed several weeks ago (so sorry if this post is a bit strong :).

Google scholarships for women.

Southeastern is a private non-profit. Hillsborough Community has a two-three year wait list. Southeastern will not take any humanities credits (St. John's University, NYC, 1977) because they say the topics I studied in english, psych, history...are antiquated. All must be done over. Year and a half if you include nights and summers; since I have two degrees I do not qualify for any financial assistance of any kind, and that includes CLEP testing. I looked into 'displaced homemaker'...nada. Since I've studied anatomy and life drawing for several years, and (before computer generated imaging) medical illustration, thought I'd have a good chance of being accepted to a program or two. $65,000 for a year and a half program sounds extremely expensive! At our age, I don't believe there is any funding. I wish you well.
