How do you get a 92 yr old to stop driving?

She feels "young" and the state she lives in lets ANY OLD PERSON drive 10 yrs with no retests!!

I have the opposite problem I wish my parents [90's] would be able to get back behind the wheel. They stopped driving 6 years ago and it has been an exhausting challenge for me to take them where they want to go. One doesn't realize how many times an elder gets behind the wheel and goes, and once that stops they want you to pick up where they left off.

Therefore, if your Mom can get from point A to point B safely, let her go. Of course a lot depends on where you live. If she is driving in a huge metro area, that could be questionable.... if she lives in Mayberry, everyone would know her car and watch out for her.

If you do become her chauffeur, you need to set boundaries as to how many times a week you will drive. I didn't set boundaries, thus each year I used up all my vacation days, all my sick days, and too many days without pay to drive Miss Daisy and her husband [my Dad].

Go to dmv.ny.gov and print out form DS-7 a request for driver review. Sign it and send it in. Also print the DS-6 and encourage the MD to check the box requesting a review. Mail that yourself when he signs it, or it won't get done.

What are her impairments that make her an unsafe driver?
