Do you still take your parent with Alzheimer's to dentist?

I take my mom every 6 months to dentist but at some point does everyone tend to discontinue visits once the person is in later stages??

I Take my husband (84) every three months, he has all his own teeth, been going to same dentist for twenty years, everyone knows him there, and he is an excellent patient! Stage late 6 - He still brushes his teeth, but the flossing has gone by the wayside, so 3 months catches him up.

My husband continued to see the dentist throughout his dementia. That particular dental office was extremely good with impaired patients.

My boss took his wife to the dentist even in her very later stages... he was lucky to have had a dentist who knew how to work with Alzheimer's patients.

I guess it will become clear to me when its time to let that go...so far so good for now. Thanks!!

Yes, we have stopped taking mom to the dentist. She was not paying her co-pays and they had gotten to over $400. Hubby picked her up at the DDS office and forced her to pay the bill right then and there. With any kind of dementia, it becomes difficult for the dentist, very difficult. The patient cannot stay in place, they close their mouth, they can't answer questions and sedation is usually needed prior to the visit.
