My mother didn't sleep for 2 days when she started talking non-stop. She just talks, not to me in particular, but to imaginary people in the room. The talk is not based in reality, just nonsense and made-up stuff. I thought she would be better after she got some sleep. She finally settled down to sleep this morning. After 4 hours she was awake again and talking. She is also deaf. I don't have to be in the room for her to talk. She just talks and she must think people are listening. Meanwhile, I don't sleep more than a couple of hours a day. I am exhausted.
I can only talk from experience, I took my Mum home at first when they said that she needed to go in a home, she lived with me for two years and I'm so glad I gave that to her. But it came to a point that I had to give in to my denial, very hard but I couldn't give her the care she needed at that point, much as I wanted too. She has been in a nursing home for a year and her dementia has galloped. Nothing to do with the home. The only advice is as much as you don't want it, there is only so much you can do. It is the worst feeling but sometimes it's the best. Also, whatever they say you have to go with it otherwise the troubled mind will worry them. Bless you all for trying xx
Her thing is to talk constantly during a movie or the news and then ask what they said. I say to her, well is you would hush, you would hear what they say. Many times I just have to go outside for a few minutes to get some peace and quiet, and she is still yaking as I walk out the door! Drives me insane!
my grandpa never shut up from dawn to dusk and if theres an afterlife im bettin he still hasnt . everyone could leave the room and the old guy would go on with his stories .. in the late 70 ' s he lost his s*it entirely . usedta bounce into my aunt ednas living room in his birthday suit wanting to fight people . nut - friggin - case ..
I have a "talker" it started in the beginning of her dementia and is getting less in the later stage. She wasn't a big talker before so I do think it was the dementia. Maybe it was just her way of trying to cover up her memory gaps?
I don't know about it being common, but my mom yaks and yaks and yaks about who-knows-what for hours, often conducting several conversations, letting out bits and pieces of each conversation. Sometimes it's all jumbled up and makes no sense, but after listening carefully, we can piece it all together and sort of figure out what the heck she was talking about. And then there are times when she's just not in the mood and absolutely silent. Thank goodness!
Im not sure. I've only been working there for close to a year. I was told she had mild dementia prior to being hired, but her neuro doctor dx says moderate dementia. She will even talk during movies and the news, and then ask what they said, lol I can tell you that she is lonely.
I have relatives who do NOT have dementia who talk non-stop! Did this person you are referring to, talk a lot before the dementia diagnosis? I haven't heard of this being common, though, with dementia.
