My Dad (89) has dementia from brain injury (football, boxing) He has refused to shower for two months. Advice?

He always says he will do it later and gets angry if we say he has not bathed in a while. Tells us we are not his momma.

My father didn't want to shower. What we had to do was leave him no option. He was told it was time for his shower, we would heat the house so it was warm, than get everything ready for him -- warm water, towels, etc. My mother would stay with him while he showered. Dad always felt better after he got out of the shower.

Men really need to shower, because the skin on their private parts needs to stay clean to keep it healthy. This is particularly so if they wear Depends. People with dementia often hate to take showers, but it is one of those things they need to do at least once or twice a week to stay healthy.
