How do I figure an hourly amount for being my husbands caregiver 24/7?

He has dementia. We have no long-term insurance.

Nikki, you can't take this deduction. Doing so would be a red flag and then the IRS will audit the entire return. I'd rather face an angry raccoon than an IRS audit.

Were you thinking of it as a charitable donation? I doubt that would qualify ...

You are taxed on money you had/have. Money you don't receive is not relevant to your taxes, unless you are writing off a bad debt.

The eyes of IRS is you are the your husband's spouse. If you hired someone for your husband and you paid , yes it would be medical expenses, but not you....

Sounds like you are trying to create a medical expense of someone's salary for taking care of your husband that does not have a paper trail of monthly payments or a 1099MIS for the year. Does not sound like it exists to me. There must be other medical expenses that you can claim that are documented. Who does your taxes?

Please tell us more about this. I've never done this before and I've been a care provider for over five years. Are you in the US?

nikki34 Mar 2015
No one is going to pay me....it's what I can deduct on my taxes as a care provider. I just don't know how to figure it.

Who do you think is going to pay you?
