Can I tax deduct these items for my bedridden post stroke husband's taxes?: disposable chux, wipes, diapers, urinals, plastic bags, Lysol?

Can I deduct A & D ointment, Vaseline, glycerin or hemorrhoid suppositories, rinse free soap and shampoo, hospital bed sheets, non-disposable chux, wheelchair cushions, brake handles, special or excessive paper towels, trays, pillows, stool softeners, nystatin cream and/or rolling shelf units to store the above supplies?

Thanks

Nobody can deduct diapers. Lots of young parents wish they could. Any medical stuff has to be ordered by an MD to be deductible, so forget shampoo, butt wipes, Vaseline etc. Equipment such as a wheelchair that has a doctor's order YES. Prescription meds, such as nystatin, YES.

emmahota, you would need to get Publication 502 of the IRS. The deduction is limited to those qualifying medical expenses that are greater than 10% of your adjusted gross income.

You could look up the IRS rules about medical deductions or online, but I would think that these items do not qualify for a medical deduction.
