The DOT is doing work in front of my Dad's house and his anxiety is very high. He slipped out this afternoon and walked into a work zone where they were cutting trees. I ran out there as soon as I realized, but it could have been much worse. The workmen are familiar with our situation and they do keep a lookout, but it isn't their job. I need to channel his energies into activities that are interesting to a person with about a 5 minute memory. He isn't interested in TV, reading or puzzles, and other household chores don't take enough time to keep him from running to the window to look at the mess in his front yard.
He gets terribly anxious late in the afternoon and checks all the doors repeatedly, up to four and five times. Even after he gets in bed, he reminds us to check the doors. I really don't wish to put him on more meds, but I can't have him running into a work zone. I believe this anxiety cannot be good for his heart, either!
