on your profile it mentioned you're in New Bedford, MA, so I did a search for "respite care" in this area an found 158 listings: yellowpages/new-bedford-ma/respite-care?page=1 hope this helps.
How much does something like this cost. I could use a few days of respite without Mother in the house. Although we have a live-in assistant, she is not on duty 24-7 so I'm caring for mother all nights and our caregiver's days off. Even if the caregiver is on duty, there's always something that I need to do or get for Mother.
before my dad went into asst living I dad try out respite. Ask the respite place you chose how they bill as the place I used started the billing at midnight but I did not drop dad off until mid afternoon so I paid a lot that first day.
Just about all Assisted living facilities offer "Respite Care" which is designed exactly for times as you describe. Call around, find one that has availability when you need it. We did this several times for family weddings or business trips,.when. we were gone for.more.than a day, and it was sort.of like taking the dog to the kennel--I'm not sure dad liked it very well, but he was safe and well fed. But he was sure glad.to see.us when we picked him up on our way back from airport. You're doing the right thing in bringing him there, they know how to handle it. If you're not sure, drop.him off now while you're still in town, for a trial run. That way if you can't stand it, just go pick him back up. But I think K you will enjoy the peace of.mind. and you might just decide to move him there permanently (part of the reason they offer Respite Care).
