How can a person get a NH to provide a level of treatment to the resident that is dignified and with a level of quality of life?

Nursing homes today are so overwhelmed due to cost cutting measures to their staffs that the workers just give only the minimum level of service demanded by law. Meanwhile, some patients needs are not being addressed. Also, with the push towards converting many wings to rehab facilities(more profitable) I worry about the long term affect of my loved one's care. BTW-this is a privately run long term care facility. Any thoughts on how to best handle this??

Long Term Care Ombudsman in your state is the place to go if you can't get things resolved at the facility. Find them through your council on aging or state department of health and human services. They should have a "here are our standards for treatment" and then you should hold them to it.

Make lists and bring up specific issues and ask for specific solutions. Vigilance.
