Helen, if the senior can't do things for himself chances are he would need someone to tend to him 168 hour per week.... thus 3 caregivers each working an 8 hour shift 5 days per week, then another 3 caregivers to work the weekends. Would this senior be able to afford to pay from his own retirement fund?
If he cannot afford to pay for all the caregivers, see if he can qualify for Medicaid. Medicaid could send a certified caregiver in for a couple of hours each day, but that might not be enough care for him. He might have to move to a continuing care facility to have all the layers of care he would need. If he owns the home he is in, then Medicaid will use the equity from the home for payment of his care.
Use the information that Pam had posted above to see if he could get Meals on Wheels, and any other program that would helpful for him.
