My Father suddenly has to be moved to a nursing home. What happens to his two pensions he receives?
He became became ill and is now on a vent. I live in NYC, I am the only child and he is single. He never talked to me about his finances, so I dont know what I should do , with his bank accounts also
If you don't have POA or DPOA call his attorney ASAP. IF he is on Hospice, Medicare will cover part of his care, but not all of it. PLEASE go to his house and look for a Living Will or Will or Advanced Directives. Call his attorney first thing in the AM
Assuming he has the pensions direct deposited, they should continue to be deposited as the fiduciary of the pension fund won't have any other information to the contrary. If he receives checks, some banks will allow the funds to be deposited w/o endorsement if there is no cash back taken.
Or were you wondering whether the pension funds would be stopped, or required to pay for nursing home care?
I would spend some time at his house going through his financial records to inventory his assets, just so you at least know what's available.
