My parents live in a retirement community in Lakewood. They need a simple, reliable driving service. Suggestions?

My dad is 85, and has had 1 minor car accident. My mom (81) does not have a license. I want to be proactive, instead of waiting for a disaster. They are private people, and move slowly. They won't do the shuttle, and need a door-to-door service. Is there a trust-worthy, reasonable service in the area?

Contact the local transit organization and ask if it has door-to-door service for elderly. It's only $1 one way here in my area, and the service will take someone anywhere within a 10 mile radius of home.

Most of us have that issue with our aging parents. They don't want to use what is available for them, be it the shuttle at the retirement village, or calling up a cab. They want us to do the driving instead.

That puts us between a rock and a hard place. I am trying to coach my parents to start calling a cab if they feel they have to go somewhere, because of an injury I haven't been able to drive them. So they are stuck at their home.

As for groceries, does your area have on-line grocery service with home delivery? That's been a life saver for me for the past couple of years, even though my Mom still wants me to go into the store to get the bananas and red potatoes.... [sigh].

Check with your local council on aging, see if they have any recommendations. They would have a more current list.
