She underwent hip replacement 1 month ago, but was diagnosed with altered mental status/early dementia approximately 4 months ago. She does have decaffeinated coffee/tea as she has for years. No extra sugar. In terms of meds, nothing new. I believe her dementia actually started about a year ago. We have a set of rituals we go through, but she is not able to go to sleep once the routine is done. I understand a small portion of it may be recovering from hip surgery, but I don't believe it explains all of it. Thanks for any feedback.
Betty, I assume you've already addressed the obvious issues such as no stimulating foods, coffee, sugar, etc. close to bedtime?
What are her other medical conditions, and has there been any change or recent new diagnosis? What are her meds? Any changes there? And how long has this been going on?
