Do I need a Conservatorship if I already have POA?

My 79 yr-old mom currently lives in an independent living setting, and has recently been diagnosed with Dementia. I'm running into so many brick walls and dead-end detours with information and advice. I'm starting to feel lost. She has no money and is on a fixed income and I have no money nor room in my upstairs apartment for in-home care.

Blue cross BlueShield are medical and hospital insurance in my experience. If your mother is impoverished, you should be looking into getting hercqualified for Medicaid. Fond out which nearby ALs will accept Medicaid after some periid of private pay. Get her on waiting lists.

I am trying to be proactive in searching for assisted living and where her income is acceptable (for the time when she can no longer live alone), and most of the organizations and assisted living facilities that I've contacted are either private ($$$) or don't accept Medicare/Blue Cross-Blue Shield. I'm also looking into getting her a county social worker to help me.

Could you be a bit more specific as to the frustrations you're experiencing with the "brick walls" and "dead-end detours"? Are you dealing with governmental agencies, with facilities, with medical personnel? What's the nature of these problems, and how do you think a guardianship would help address/solve them?

I would think the nature of these frustrations would factor into whether or not a guardianship would be appropriate and would address the problems.

If you're attorney-in-fact under a Durable Power of Attorney, that should give you a broad range of responsibilities, unless it was one of those boiler-plate forms downloaded from an Internet site.

Are the financial issues part of the frustration you're experiencing?

If you can be more specific, it will be easier to provide answers and suggestions.
