What kind of home health care may be available for a retired air-force VA spouse?

Also in hospice care. The care needed is 24 hrs. or what ever hrs may be able to get.

Hilynn, I hope you have located the military discharge papers, you will need those for your VA application.

I was told by the VA that it is illeagle to charge someone to fill out va applications. I am just telling you want the VA told me. We applied for aide and attendance for mom and she got her first check in less than 3 months. If anyone is interested in the process i used, please message me and i will give you a link to my site where i spelled it all out step by step. The motorator will not let me mention the link in a thread so you will have to message me, but i will help in any way i can. Ruth Anne

Is the veteran still alive? Was he killed in the line of duty? These are just a few questions that you're going to have to have the answers to.

I went to a seminar. I got the impression they didn't charge for services. Thanks for the info. I never would have paid for the service since I thought it was free. In working, I have worked with goverment contracts and if things aren't done just right, we didn't get paid.

JoAnn , Veterans Financial Services is a for profit company. It's a "private financial service company" according to its website.

The veterans' services charities provide a range of services and don't need to know the specifics of a veteran's assets. I calculated them and just provided the total; no one asked to see anything beyond that.

But the charities also aren't interested in restructuring a veteran's portfolio.

I hope you didn't pay this company anything to handle your application process??

You should also make a call to your local "Area Agency on Aging. They have all the resources available in your area.

You can apply for VA aid and attendance benefits. Check with local va office as there are income limitations. If you check my profile page you will find a link where i wrote out the process i used to get moms benefits in 3 months. Hope the best for you and your family. Ruth Anne

Lynn, that depends on so many factors; determining it really requires someone familiar with VA qualifications.

These are Google hits for VA facilities in Texas, allegedly in your area (according to the search parameters I used:)

Contact an outpatient clinic, ask for the eligibility department and ask how to determine what might be available for the spouse.

You could also contact the service organizations such as American Legion or VFW; they have specific branches that do help veterans qualify for care. They would probably be able to help you the most.

Another alternative is to contact the county offices for your area and ask if they have any veterans affairs departments to help veterans and/or spouses qualify for assistance.

Some state congressmen/women publish a brochure that's about 70 - 80 pages and is very helpful. You could call your local representatives and ask if they have such brochures. Sometimes they can also be found at senior centers.

Whatever you do, don't contact commercial organizations pretending to assist veterans; they may tell you that they don't charge, but they will ask for personal financial data to restructure any asset portfolio you may have, and put your funds into financial products that allows them to charge for those services.
