Where can I get help with depends for my Mother that has a fixed income?
i just need help with the cost i have two grand babies that i have all the time and i dont work and my husband is a pastor of a small church. We just don't have the money to do much for her.
Paper Towels that are damp and lots of baby oil...wipe and throw those in a plastic bag till she's clean...then finish with a damp face cloth! hope this helps!
cleaning up? that's another topic! lol wen i clean my mom, i take a wet wash cloth and everytime my mother goes to the bathrooom (pee only) i wipe her with a toilet paper then take the wet cloth with baby oil...and clean off the whole area, front and back...to make sure she doesn't smell and she's clean. Now, when she poops...omg...the only way I can clean that is with damp PAPER TOWELS
Mallory, why don't u use babywipes to clean up. Huggies are a really nice size and thick. You can get them with aloe. I throw them right in the pail I use for diapers.
I worked for a Visiting Nurse Facility. People would donate Depends, etc. We would give them to people who asked. Call your office the Aging and see if they know an organization who does this. Call ur local Homecare/hospice. If they have clients who have passed they may have some or donated them. Medicare sends them whether needed or not once set up for shipping. We used to get cartons donated that people on hospice were receiving. If you are looking for cheaper, BJs and Sams Club have them in bulk. Look for coupons in ur paper. Sometimes the Clubs will have them. Yes, there is a membership but maybe u can find someone to help u.
Churches; every one of them. Speak with the pastor, minister, or whoever is in charge. Some will try to enroll you. Don't. Those usually help you out at first, then insist you buy a ticket to Heaven to be paid in never-ending installments. Pick the ones that can help out of the kindness of their hearts. Might not get much, but it's a start.
oh, above i said I use pads in diapers, but in evening...I put the pads in diapers, then put two folded hand towels over that...and and purchased some large coverups that are washable over that and those have a snaps on sides. overnight the urine soaks into the towels...and those are easily washed along with outer washable diaper. she rarely poops at night, but if she does, it usually stays in the paper diaper...and I toss those, and just wash the rest. She sleeps thru the night...no problem! Make sure to put vaseline on her skin buttocks and upper thighs...she has never gotten a rash!!
I bought some re-usable, washable ones for my mother, and inside of these, she would put a washcloth folded into thirds. This worked very well, until she started having some fecal incontinence. Even for that, she was OK with some of that since she had 5 kids in cloth diapers. We just put them into a diaper pail, and washed them every other day. But eventually it got to be a lot of work so we would buy them at Costco--however we still needed the diaper pail with lid and deodorizers. And the cloth wash clothes, those were still needed to clean up her bottom, and needed washing in hot water & bleach.
According to the Medicare website "Medicare doesn't cover incontinence supplies or adult diapers."
Fear, any chance your Mother could qualify for Medicaid? Medicaid does cover bladder control supplies such as adult diapers in some states, so you would need to call your State Medicaid office to see if that program is available in your State.
i buy my diapers online...ebay, but still not cheap. what I do though, is buy those long, thick pads...and use those in the diaper...change those when she wets, usually the urine doesn't go thru to the diaper if you have the right pads, if it does, then i change both. i save hundreds of dollars doing that.
Call your Area Agency on Aging. You can find their # on the internet. They have resources for low income folks. If you do have to purchase and you have a sams club in your area they have the best price ive found. A large package of 80 for 30.00
