It looks like my Mom needs to go into assisted living. She has some savings but what happens when her money runs out?

Should be looking for a facility that accepts Medicare/Mediaid?

Does the Doctor determine if she needs to go to assisted living? Currently she is at the hospital under observation, they are recommending 24/7 care for her. But because she is not an inpatient by Medicare criteria, they can't send her to assisted living under Medicare guidelines? trying to understand all of this.

Has she had an inpatient psychiatric evaluation to see if medication can help?

My mother is borderline and can not make it in assisted living, I fear for the staff and others because she is extremely aggressive and impossible. What are my o[tions?

Often there is a social worker at the hospital who can give you some guidance, tell you who processes the Medicaid claims, and get the ball rolling. When you say savings, do you mean a couple hundred or thousands? What is her monthly income. There are guidelines on those. Depending on that, she may have to do spend down, which I cannot explain very well. Others here have done it and can help explain that. Good luck.

Why is she under observation at the Hospital? What are her impairments? You say "they" are recommending 24/7 care, what level of care?

She doesn't qualify for Medicare funded rehab because she hasn't had a qualifying 3 night admission to a hospital. Can you talk to the discharge planners about next steps?

I think your first step should be contacting Medicaid to see how and if mom is qualified. Once you have that information, you'll be in a better position to investigate possibilities.
