Has POLST been approved as a legal document in Florida?

I'm in Florida and I don't know the answer to this question, but I do know my mother's doctor (geriatrician) has spoken with her about it when my mother was hospitalized earlier this year. If it hasn't been specifically approved as a service, then I'm guessing doctors just talk to patients about it as part of their general consultations, at least with the older/sicker patients.

I'd suggest you contact POLST national organization to see where this legislation stands for FL. The west coast states - CA & OR - are making headway in getting these through. The big hump is getting Medicare & medicaid to either allow for a change within reinbursement coding to pay for MD to speak with the elder & their MPOA regarding end of life options OR to put in new codes to allow for this. My guess is based on the chatter around "death panels" last election cycle, that enacting POLST will be hard but 15/20 years from now when costs of long term & end of life care has bankrupted both the budgets & psyche of government & families, will a reality check happen to change what end of life care means in the US.

Personally I want the Sol Roth option when it's time.

Sorry, looks like no one can answer this. Maybe because they don't know what it is? Call ur Office of the Aging. If they don't have the info they may point you in the right diection.
