Hi - my father is currently in a rehab facility after a recent health issue. He has dementia and was found wandering his neighborhood. He lives along, and had not taken his diabetes medicine for over 2 weeks. He was hospitalized for a week and is now in rehab, however his rehab is soon going to end as his insurance is about to be cut off. Over the last two months, his dementia has accelerated and it is clear he cannot go home again.
I am in a rush to find an Assisted Living facility that can handle dementia patients (I would be worried he would wander - he recently got out of the rehab facility and was lost/confused). I need to apply for Medicaid for him as he has no assets of cash of much value. I can pay privately if absolutely needed until Medicaid is approved (but the most I could pay is 3 or 4 months)
I was hoping to get some good recommendations for Assisted Living facilities that take Medicaid (an can handle patients with dementia). I would be willing to work with one in Queens, Brooklyn, Manhattan (where I live) or even Nassau County on Long Island (where my father currently lives), although I prefer one close to me so I can see him fairly frequently.
ANY help, advice, or comments would be GREATLY appreciated.
