Can they commit my Mother?

Clearly the meds are not working. Be in touch with the psychiatrist and facility social worker about the advisability of bringing her home. Would you consider having her stay at a Senior Behavioral Clinic so they can get the meds sorted out. I'm so sorry you're having this issue. I can't bear it when my mom gets like that.

Who has her POA in case of incapacity? Hopefully that is done. That person should have the power to decide where she lives if defined in the POA. If there isn't a POA the nuursing home may file for an emergency guardian to be appointed by the courts. But, first and foremost, are you sure you want to take this on? I would at minimum make sure they have meds figured out and are working. Many drugs have adverse effects on elderly with dementia. It is often trial and error to find the right regimen. Has she had a geriatric psych evaluation done? That is where they work with her meds to try to find something to make her more comfortable.

Is she being trialed on any antidepressant or antianxiety meds?

They will not be able to continue ot/pt paid by Medicare if she's not making progress. That does not mean that the will commit her somewhere.

I don't think I've ever gotten a psychiatric dx from the psych who sees my mom. Just treatment for her symptoms.
