You can irrevocably assign the ins policy to the funeral home and pre-plan the funeral. If the funeral home is a Dignity funeral home, assigning does not lock in the price anymore, and you would only be buying a $2200 funeral. That's what I was told.
With Medicaid you can have a house, a car and no more than $2,000 in other assets. Do you have a prepurchased burial or cremation policy? You would gave to cash in the life insurance policy then buy burial expense policy. But, call Medicaid in your state as many laws are a bit different from state to state. The cash value can be spent down on other needs as well, but do not give the money or donate it to anybody ot any organization. That would cause Medicaid to issue a penalty equal to the amount.
