Flyer is right. The only other option I can think of is if you have a long term care policy and see if there's a provision that might include that as a valid paid option. My dad's cousin is paying her daughter to care for her five days a week from 10 - 4 and then they have other help as well. Their policy did allow for it, but I should add the daughter had been a CNA in the past. I don't know if that made a difference or not, I'm sure it didn't hurt. If you don't see an elder law attorney and get that contract set-up beforehand.
Vast majority of grown children are not paid to take care of the parent(s) unless the parents pays from their own pocket. If your mother can do that, then you and your wife would need to set up an employment contract.
