Should I go through an agency or try to hire myself?Daddy is unable/unwilling to get into shower. I am physically unable to help him into and out of. There is only so much cleaning he can do himself in a wheelchair (he can stand, but not for long). I just need somebody for 2-3 hours one day per week. I would also be here to help out, "gopher-ing" and such.

Check out the Genworth Cost of Care Study for hourly price ranges for home health aides in your state. In addition to checking out agencies, ask for referrals from friends and neighbors who have home health aides. Home health aides often have colleagues looking for work or extra work because their situations can change suddenly when the person they're caring for goes into a nursing home or passes away. Good luck!

If you find someone yourself who is not from an agency, your Dad will need to get a workman's comp rider for his homeowner's insurance in case that worker hurts him/herself at your Dad's house. Those riders aren't cheap.
