What are your choices when a ALF rejects you and you are too independent for a NH?

A local ALF backed out on accepting mom, not because she has Alzheimer's but because she cannot sort and pick out her pills without help. She was in respite care for a couple of weeks but is more advanced and more mobile than the majority of the residents there. We did get a statement from the NH that mom is more suited for a ALF than a NH, but is that enough?
She can eat, dress, toilet, move around with her walker without assistance, but she does have trouble chewing tough meats and vegetables. Any suggestions anyone?

Wow, I see Kentucky has unique rules, yes in ALF they do NOT administer meds and there is a whole separate certification required if they accept Alzheimer's patients. Here in NY, DOH requires the facility to do the meds. Even over the counter meds like Tylenol and cough syrup need a written order from an MD.

There are dome Assisted Living facilities where i live who will not accept patients who have been diagnosed with dementia. Not all ALFs are created equal. Call several more and find out if the provide " medication managrment and dispensing " as part of their base package, or as an add on with an additionsl charge. Good luck!

I think you may be confused. Independent Living would expect her to sort pills, but not Assisted Living. An ALF dispenses the meds.
