When a person passes away what does POA holders have the right to say what the rest of the family can do and are there any responsibilities?
Does POA person have any responsibilities as for remaining bills, payment of funeral expenses and control of personal items. Can POA stop family from going to the funeral service ?
Curious why the POA wouldn't want the family to come to the funeral? Was there serious conflict in the family? Was it between the relatives? Was the person who passed or will pass part of the conflict?
If the person who passed or will pass wasn't part of any conflict, I feel any friend and relatives should be able to pay their respects to that person. No one should deny that right.
Adding to VegasLady's response, on death the responsibilities of management fall to the Personal Representative (formerly known as Executrix or Executor) identified in the Will, or to a Trustee if the individual had a Trust.
If neither exist, the person died intestate and state laws govern how distributions are made and to whom. I don't know though how management of any estate would be handled, i.e., who would be appointed.
