Sorry, no funds are out there to help them. Unless they can negotiate with the company that gave them the car loan. Or did they go to one of those store front loan companies that gives a person money if you show your car title?
Whomever reprocessed the car had to have given your Grandparents notice [it varies from State to State as to the number of days and number of times notice is given].
Consider it a blessing in disguise. Now cancel the insurance. If they can't remember to pay the car, check other bills too. Be sure they are not in danger of getting utilities shut off or property sold for unpaid taxes.
This could be a blessing in disguise. Too often family is at a loss getting their elders to give up the keys, maybe it's time for your grandparents to consider ways to manage without a car.
Perhaps your grandparents forgot to make the payments, perhaps they were confused, or perhaps they didn't have the funds to make the payments. If the latter, getting the car back will still be problematic until there are funds in their assets or the family to maintain payments for the car.
It might also be that it's time to question whether or not they can afford to maintain the car, and whether or not it's time to consider other options for transportation.
But I don't know of anyone or any source that will offer funds to make current payments on a car sufficient that the back payments can be brought current. Even if there are medical issues, the alternative of not maintaining a car and insurance might be less desirable than finding alternate public transportation that isn't as costly as car maintenance is.
Your profile doesn't indicate any geographic location so I can't check on what local transit might offer, but that would be a source. If you look for paratransit, point to point rides, dial-a-ride, small bus service .... those are acronyms for various types of transit that provided assistance to people who need transportation directly to a source rather than access to linehaul services. And in my area, they're quite reasonably priced.
