I live here locally, but work. Is it unusual for an assisted living facility not to give you a list of the extra care, and the cost for such care? I have asked to meet with them, and have asked them to call me, but they have not. I found out today she has not had a bath in 3 weeks, and they told her she would get a bath every Tuesday at 3:00 p.m. They also as of yesterday, told her they could not crush her pills up any more without an order from her doctor. She has always had problem swallowing large pills. I'm having to handle more things now than before assisted living. Becoming frustrated, and a little mad with them.

They can only give meds by written order, even aspirin, and yes if it needs crushing the MD has to write that on the order. If she needs bathing assistance, again it needs the MD order. That's state health dept .regulation. Have a sit down with the head nurse. Make sure there are PRN orders for any over the counter medications.
What we found is that mom would refuse a shower and tell the aide " I already took one", a total lie on her part. She had a nasty looking sponge with black mold on it that we threw away. She kept steak knives in her purse to avoid the NO sharps rule. She had nitro pills in there-- we gave them to the nurse. You will find contraband on a regular basis.
