My mother (90) can't take care of her own needs, she needs 24 hour care. What can we do?

Does she have any other assets to be sold? Old insurance policies, etc.? Have you been through the spend-down process already, or do you need help with that (i.e. eldercare attorney, estate planner who is knowledgeable about Medicaid?)

The residential home she is in may not be able to accept Medicaid. That's your biggest hurdle. If there are less than four residents, it may not even be a licensed facility. Look into that and start the Medicaid application.

Care homes are usually eligible for Medicaid, I thought. So, after a monthly allowance deduction for your mom, the home would get everything else if they accept Medicaid. This is very important for many when they are shopping facilities. If you anticipate the need for Medicaid, find a place that will accept it. Many require a period of time of self pay first.
