Is there any way to get financial help for Alzheimer spouses?

My wife's hospice care with paid care givers is extremely expensive. It has cost me over $55,000 last year to pay care givers for 7 day care for my bed-bound wife. We didn't expect that she would still be with us now after over 12 months in home-hospice. My savings are almost depleted and I'm wondering if there is some agency of the government that provides financial help for such situations. My wife is 84, and I am 85 in fairly good health. I would appreciate any help i can get.

Hospice is paid by Medicare. There's a nurse who checks in once a week, and a CNA who helps care givers for 15 minutes 3 days a week. I must pay for care givers 7 days/11hrs per day at $15.00 per hour.

Depending on your State [each State has their own rules and regulations], the spouse who isn't on Medicaid [you] gets to keep a certain amount to live on. On Monday, give your State Medicaid office a call.

Thank you; but that is when all your resources are depleted; correct? I thought there might be some financial aid before that occurs. Wishful thinking.....
