I'm trying to answer you politely, but my brain is screaming "ARE YOU NUTS" over and over again. Ask any fireman the same question about locking them in. Words like "false imprisonment" "felony" "criminally negligent homicide" may pop up in the conversation.
This isn't the way to save people from themselves. My long-dead sister Tata asked me the same thing. A cocaine fiend, she once wanted to quit cold turkey and begged me to bolt her door and windows from the outside. I refused and took her to rehab. A mini-vacation from drugs that did nothing for her. She came back to the neighborhood and went on a long binge. When dealers wouldn't give her any more credit, she sold her body. Tata asked me again and again to bolt her door and windows at my expense. But I knew it was to sucker creditors into believing she was gone and the apartment was seized by the landlord, not to keep away the "jealous, abusive exes who couldn't get over her." She lived on the top floor, yet it never occurred to them to go to the roof and look down the skylight through which she crawled out late at night. Still, every weekend she called with the usual "They want to kill me." To make a long story short, her heart stopped one night.
Had I in fact locked her in, I'd have been charged with her death and probably be in prison right now.
DO NOT lock anyone in. Just drop by the local precinct and ask for advice.
You mean like lock the door from the outside so that she can't open it from the inside, while you are away?
Whoa ... that sounds like an emergency waiting to happen. I don't know about the legality, but it is a very, very bad idea.
From you profile I take it that you are caring for your girlfriend. I don't know what her impairments are, but this situation sounds scary. Is she afraid she will go out and do something regrettable? If she is afraid of someone coming in, can't she lock the door herself from the inside?
Is this "building we slept in" the place where you live?
Definitely don't lock someone in a building, whether they want you to or not!
If you want to explain the situation further, perhaps we can suggest other ways to meet your needs. But don't lock her in!
