Where to find help for elderly mother with Parkinson's?

Hi, my mom suffers from Parkinson's and lives with my Dad. We need someone to help out a few hours a day a few times a week. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks

Something very useful is to do a search in the upper right hand corner of this page. Your question, though valid is too broad, and has been discussed at great lengths in other posts. You will have very much material and ideas, suggestions to read if you do a search of this website. Thanks Elzie, M88

Beedolfin, very rarely does family get paid to care for a spouse/mother/father/aunt/uncle/grandparent unless that patient can pay the family caregiver from their own savings.

You could check with your State Medicaid office to see what programs, if any, are available to pay a family caregiver. But note, even if the State has such a program the pay would be minimum wage for a couple hours per day.

If a patient needs around the clock care, Medicaid finds its less expensive to place a patient into a continuing care facility then to pay 3 full shifts a day at the person's home. It's something to thing about for the future, as to have one family member be around the clock caregiver is very exhausting and results in health issues for the caregiver.... one cannot survive on 2 or 3 hours a sleep each day.

could my wife get financial aid as my caregiver?

One suggestion is to call caregiver agencies in your area to see what is available and the hourly rate. With an Agency, it is licensed, bonded, insured, and have workman's comp in case one of their employees gets hurt on the job.

If you find someone outside of an Agency, thus self-employed, then your parents would need to add a "workman's comp" rider on their homeowner's insurance.
