A friend's sister currently in psychiatric unit. The sister is close to 60 years old and is receiving disability check each month. My friend's father is approaching 80 himself and is worn out. I believe from sound of things, the sister has not been taking her meds and cannot manage herself or health any longer. This is draining her father's funds and wreaking havoc for daily living for both of them. Please advise what type of guardianship or medical power of attorney the father should try to get. Thanks

Unless asked, stay out of it unless you already have an advisory relationship with the family. Continue to be a supportive friend to both parties. imo.
Or advise them to check with NAMI, the National Alliance for Mental Illness.
Why are you asking? Is your friend asking for your advice?
