Can we have our mom moved to a different facility?

As a retired long term care administrator let me assure you that the administrator or director of nursing would be interested in helping resolve whatever the issue(s) is/are, but if they appear not to be helpful or interested in resolving your concerns, then another facility may be the best option. Also work with your main contact for hospice. Either the hospice's social worker or primary nurse will know if other residents they have cared for have experienced similar issues, as well as what other facilities in your community may be a better fit. In New York it is possible for a Medicaid recipient to be placed in a facility located in Pennsylvania. Noting that you are in a border county, AL may have a similar arrangement. Your local Medicaid office would have the answer.

In Delaware Hospice is an agency that comes into the nursing facility. They work with the facility nurses. They are not there 24/7, I don't believe. So is ur probblem with the Hospice or nursing home. Talk to the head nurse or the Administrator about your concerns and how they or you can bring it up to the Hospice agency. You havea right to voice your concerns. Maybe another agency can be brought in. Remember though, Hospice is just there to make the patient comfortable. Some meds may be discontinued.

Give us a couple of examples of what is happening now and how you would like it to be changed. I'm assuming that your mom is on end of life hospice care rather than temporary care for pain management. Are you concerned about pain? Is your mom being left in a dirty condition? Are there issues with rude staff?

You should make a list of the things you would like to see changed. Go to the charge nurse, or director, then go to the administrator of the facility. Then the licensing agency if they are not meeting state standards. If it is the Hospice care , that is a separate agency and you follow the same route.

I'm sorry your Mom is not being taken care of properly. I hope she is not aware of it, and she passes peacefully. Try to see her as much as you can. Maybe you can talk to someone there about the situation.

Once a patient is in Hospice, the last thing you want to do is attempt to cross a state line. If she is on Medicaid, the AL Medicaid stops at the state line. You then start over and reapply in MS. You don't have that kind of time.
